Heavy storms in the northern Italian Adriatic province of Ravenna left 14 people injured on Sunday night. Two people were in a car that was hit by a falling tree. They were hospitalized with injuries, Italian media report.
Fire crews from across the region were deployed on Sunday morning to remove fallen trees. The storm caused power outages in some parts of Ravenna province. A video shows how bathers fled the beach in Lido di Classe near Ravenna on Saturday. The storm (see video below) hit the area hard.
Tennis ball large hailstones
Hailstones the size of tennis balls hit crops in the Emilia Romagna region, particularly in the provinces of Parma, Modena and Bologna, causing severe damage to fields. Orchards in the Ravenna area were devastated, where gusts tore down greenhouses, uprooted trees and broke dozens of rows of vines. The region was already hit by severe storms in May, causing damage worth 12 billion euros.
Heavy storms had already hit northern Italy on Friday. The Lombard province of Cremona was particularly affected.
