The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogansaid this Friday that his country is not favorable for the accession of Finland Yes Sweden on the NATOfor the alleged support of those Nordic nations for Kurdish activists and others Ankara considers “terrorists”.

“We are closely following developments regarding Sweden and Finland, but we do not have a favorable opinion,” Erdogan told reporters.

The accession of these two countries requires the approval of all members of the Alliance, of which Turkey is a part.

“Scandinavian countries are like boarding houses for terrorist organizations. I go further, they (terrorists) also have space in their parliaments,” Erdogan said.

Sweden and other Scandinavian countries have repeatedly criticized Turkey for violating the human rights of the Kurdish minority and have also granted asylum to those who criticize Turkey’s Islamist president.

Greece

Erdogan has also maintained that he did not want to repeat the “mistake” of Greece’s accession to NATO, by assuring that Athens later used the Alliance against Turkey.

“Previous governments have made mistakes before in NATO with Greece. We already know Greece’s attitude towards Turkey. We don’t want to make a second mistake,” said the Turkish president.

Although the two countries joined the Alliance in 1952, Greece relinquished military command after accusing the Alliance of failing to prevent Turkish intervention in Cyprus in 1974. Turkey vetoed Greece’s return to the military structure of the Alliance in 1980.
