Austria Ranking – These were the most popular baby names in 2022

Emma and Maximilian top the list of the most common first names for newborns in 2022, according to an analysis by Statistics Austria of the first names of all 40,060 girls and 42,567 boys born that year. Parents chose the name Emma 659 times (1.6 percent) for girls and Maximiliaan for boys 735 times (1.7 percent).

“Emma was the most popular girl name in 2022 for the second time after 2019. Last year’s winner, Marie, fell back to third place,” says Tobias Thomas, Director General of Austrian Statistics.

Emma first reached number 10 in the list of most common girl names in 2010 and finished at number 1 in 2019. Maximilian has been in the top 10 since 2005 and – with the exception of number 4 in 2018 – has been in the top 3 since 2009 .

2022 follows in second place in the girl name chart Emily, which is just as popular as last year and has been in the top 10 since 2013. In 3rd place – and therefore two places worse than in the last two years Marie, which has been in the list of the ten most commonly given first names for girls since 2009. Ranked 4th Miawhich has risen two places compared to the previous year.

Sophia as a top climber
In grade 5 follows Annawhich has dropped two places from 2021, has been in the top 10 since 1991 and has always reached the top 3 from 1996 to 2021, including 13 first place Sophia a top climber who was five places better than last year and has been in the top 10 since 2013. Reached place 5 Noah, which only made it into the top 10 for the first time in 2021 and immediately improved by another five places. 6th and 7th place Elias And Davidwhich is down two places compared to 2021. Rank 8 follows Jonas, which was one place better than last year. 9th place Leontwo places behind 2021. In 10th place follows with Luke a re-entry into the top 10, after placing 11 in the previous year, but consistently in the list of the ten most used boy names since 1992, including 15 times – from 1996 to 2010 – in 1st place.
