The father of the children who survived 40 days in the Colombian jungle is arrested for sexual abuse

Date:

The Public Prosecution Service is investigating Manuel Ranoque for allegedly abusing his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

Colombian police arrested Manuel Ranoque this Friday after prosecutors reported sexual assault against him. In a statement, prosecutors charged Ranoque with sexually abusing his 13-year-old stepdaughter since she was 10 years old.

Ranoque is the father of two of four children who survived a plane crash in Colombia’s Amazon last May. The children disappeared after the plane they were traveling in crashed, killing their mother and two other adults.

The children, aged 1 to 13, were hospitalized for more than a month after being rescued 40 days after the incident. They have since been under the care of the Colombian Family Welfare Institute, where prosecutors say the alleged abuse was first suspected.
