A driver had to wait 19 hours for help in Vorarlberg after an accident. The 27-year-old ran off the road with his car on Monday evening on his way to Lech. It was not until Tuesday afternoon that a walker became aware of the man’s cry for help. She set the rescue chain in motion. The seriously injured man was rescued around 5 p.m. and taken by helicopter to Feldkirch State Hospital.

The 27-year-old was driving his car on Lechtalstraße L198 around 10 p.m. on Monday when he lost control of his vehicle on a curve. The car fell about 500 feet over steeply sloping terrain until it crashed into trees and came to a stop. The man was trapped in the car and could not make an emergency call. On Tuesday around 2.30 p.m., a hiker walking along the Lechweg heard a cry for help.

A search of the mountain rescue service, supported by the police helicopter, then started. The accident wreckage was finally discovered. Rescue teams from the surrounding fire brigades had to be called in to rescue the injured person, who then also recovered the completely destroyed vehicle.
