Just Wednesday, two elderly people were found dead after swimming accidents in Vienna. According to the police, an 87-year-old was already being sought on Tuesday after she could no longer be found after swimming in the harbor basin of Kuchelau on the Danube in the Döbling district. The body was not found until Wednesday morning. In the evening, an 86-year-old died while bathing in the Donaustädter Mühlwasser, a former arm of the Danube.
The 86-year-old may have had health problems in the water. A swimmer saw the lifeless man floating in the water around 6:30 p.m., pulled him to shore and started the rescue chain. All attempts at resuscitation failed.
Woman found underwater on Wednesday morning
The Viennese professional fire brigade, the volunteer fire brigade of Klosterneuburg and the police were already looking for the 87-year-old in the harbor basin of Kuchelau on Tuesday. However, the operation was canceled around 10:30 p.m. due to darkness, reports Christian Feiler, spokesman for the professional fire brigade. Shortly after the search resumed on Wednesday, the woman’s body was found underwater around 8:30 a.m. and recovered. The professional fire brigade was involved with 18 emergency services, mainly divers, Feiler explains.
