Red alert in Innsbruck! The water levels in the upper reaches of the Inn reached the value of a 100-year flood early Monday afternoon. That is why the capital of Tyrol arms itself and activates the special Inn alarm plan for the area from the market square to the congress.
“Due to the high water levels, parts of the management of community activities were stepped up. During an afternoon meeting, it was decided to activate the special Inn alarm plan and closely monitor the bridges in the city area in order to intervene quickly,” explains Mayor Georg Willi (Greens) out.
At the same time, the mayor called on the population to ‘stay at the locks for their own safety’.
Protect the old town and Mariahilf from flooding
“We are well prepared and ready to go. Flood protection in the Sill area was set up in 40 minutes in the morning hours and has proven itself so far. In the Inn area, the fire brigades are taking protective measures so that the neuralgic areas near Mariahilf and the old town are secured accordingly,” added Deputy Mayor Johannes Anzengruber (ÖVP).
Flood protection has also been installed at the clinic and university level.
Roads, paths, bridges closed
The fire service has set up or equipped a water barrier. The city center was closed in both directions from Bürgerstrasse to Karl-Kapferer-Strasse in the Herzog-Otto-Ufer area. In addition, the Karwendel Bridge and the Emile-Béthouart-Steg are already closed and active.
In addition, the Bureau of Civil Engineering is conducting bridge assessments in the Inn and Sill area to better assess the situation.
