A historic sword from the 17th century was stolen from a house in Hartberg in Eastern Styria. The crime could have happened as early as June. Still, the police are hoping for clues.
According to the police, the private apartment in Hartberg is not always occupied, so the theft could have taken place between June and August 28 – the absence of the field sword was noted on this day. It was made in the 17th century in an armory in southern Germany, is about 90 centimeters long, made of wrought iron, has a double-edged blade and a richly decorated handle with pommel and handguard. Among other things, a so-called Passau wolf is shown, the coat of arms of the city and the diocese.
The sword has a value of several thousand euros. The Federal Criminal Investigation Service is now requesting information about this theft of cultural property: to the newspaper service of the Styrian State Criminal Investigation Department at 059133/60-3333.
