Although he was just preparing a meal on the switched on stove, an innkeeper left his restaurant in Hönigsberg in Obersteiermark. A fire broke out and destroyed the entire kitchen.
The restaurant in the center of Hönigsberg was closed on Thursday afternoon when the 59-year-old innkeeper wanted to prepare a meal. But immediately after turning on the gas stove, he left the kitchen and then the restaurant.
About half an hour later it started to burn. Although cleaning crews were on site at the time, they were unable to extinguish the fire. The flames spread to the whole kitchen and caused great destruction.
No injuries but major damage
The company fire brigade Voestalpine and the volunteer fire brigade of Mürzzuschlag employed 35 men and were able to get the fire under control quickly. No one was injured, but the damage is extensive, but should be covered by insurance.
