Fatal alpine accident Friday in the Ausserfern in Tyrol: While descending from the Köllenspitze (2238 meters), a mountaineer (59) fell so unluckily that he briefly lost consciousness. Since the injured person had no mobile phone reception at the scene of the accident, he had to make his way to an alpine meadow. There he met a mountain rescuer who happened to be there.
The 59-year-old German left the mountain station of the Sonnenbergbahnen Grän in the morning for an hours-long journey. In the afternoon he finally reached the top of the Köllenspitze via various via ferratas. A fatal incident occurred during the descent towards the Nesselwängler Scharte.
Injured head and arms
“Around 4.30 pm the climber fell at an altitude of about 2,100 meters. He injured his head and arms. According to his own statements, he also lost consciousness for a short time.
Unfortunately, as is known, an accident rarely occurs alone: the injured mountaineer had no mobile phone reception at the scene of the accident and was therefore unable to make an emergency call. So he had to pull himself together and continue his descent to the Musauer Alm under his own power.
The mountain rescuers present provided first aid
„There, the rescue chain was initiated by a mountain rescuer on site and first aid was administered until emergency services arrived,” the researchers continued. Finally, the injured person was taken to the valley and admitted to the Reutte district hospital.
