Swimming in the Ottenstein reservoir in the Waldviertel is still not recommended. A study has now confirmed that there are toxins of cyanobacteria, or blue-green algae, in the water.
Swimming fun in the Ottenstein reservoir is still missing. A water analysis by the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) confirms that toxins from cyanobacteria – commonly known as blue-green algae – have been found in the reservoir. Only last Friday, the district administration advised not to bathe until there was complete clarification. This recommendation remains applicable.
More results will follow
Another inspection took place on 29 August. The results are expected early next week. Regular sampling by AGES should follow “to monitor development closely”.
In the absence of a legal basis, the district administration cannot issue a bathing ban. However, due to the bathing water regulation, bathing is strongly discouraged.
