In the past week, two motorists, one motorcyclist, one light motorcyclist, one e-bike driver and one bicycle driver were killed in traffic accidents.
On September 1, a serious traffic accident occurred in the Kitzbühel district of Tyrol, in which the aforementioned bicycle handlebar was killed. A motorist collided head-on with the oncoming 63-year-old bicycle handlebar during an overtaking manoeuvre.
63-year-old thrown over car
As a result of the impact, the 63-year-old was thrown over the car and came to rest in the road. He died in hospital from his serious injuries. Three of the six road users killed were involved in an accident this weekend. Two people each died last week on a national road B and on a municipal road, one on a motorway and one on a national road L.
Three road fatalities were reported in Upper Austria and one each in Lower Austria, Tyrol and Burgenland. The probable main causes of the accident were overtaking in two cases and in one case inappropriate speed, violation of the right of way, insufficient safety distance and carelessness/distraction.
