The Indian lander on the moon took off and landed again

Date:

Almost two weeks ago, India successfully landed a probe on the moon. Now ISRO, the country’s space agency, has announced another success. The lander ‘Vikram’ was briefly launched as part of a ‘kick start’ experiment and landed safely again (see video above), it is said.

ISRO reported via X (formerly Twitter) on Monday morning that “Vikram” had successfully completed a “jumping experiment”. The lander had “ignited its engines on command” and, as planned, was lifted about 40 centimeters from the lunar surface and 30 centimeters from the lunar surface. landed safely 16 inches from the original landing site and all systems functioned “nominal and without error,” the statement said (see below).

Rover is currently in sleep mode
According to ISRO information, the rover “Pragyan”, which landed on the moon aboard “Vikram” and relies on power from its solar panels, was put into sleep mode this weekend. It is hoped that more data will be sent to Earth from September 22, when there is sunlight again on the south side of the moon, the report said.

“The rover has completed its tasks,” ISRO reported on X on Saturday. The data collected so far with the help of the rover would be sent to Earth via the lander “Vikram”, according to the Indian space agency. “We hope for a successful awakening to a new wave of orders!” they said confidently.

Mission explores the south side of the moon
With the unmanned mission “Chandrayaan-3”, India aims to explore the southern side of the Earth’s satellite, which has been little explored so far. The focus is, among other things, on the frozen water that is present there. The background: Ice could be useful for future manned lunar missions.
