Employee arrested – man pushed off ferry ramp: Dead!

Date:

An incredible drama happened in the Greek port of Piraeus on Tuesday evening: a man jumped onto the slipway of a ferry as it was about to let go of the mooring lines. The employees reacted brutally and pushed the unwanted passenger off the ship into the harbor basin – the man died.

The incident was filmed by eyewitnesses and shared on social media. It shows how the later deceased runs onto the ramp of the ferry – the ship’s engine is already running, but the water is already well whipped up by turning the ship’s propeller. The man is eventually pushed several times from the ramp onto the pier by the employees. At the final push, however, the ship and ramp are so far from the pier that the man falls into the water.

The minister suspects that it is a case of manslaughter
The struggle, including a fall into the harbor basin, ends in death for the man. “I am shocked. There is no doubt that the crime is manslaughter,” Greek Merchant Marine Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis told X (formerly Twitter), shocked by the incident.

It is still unclear how the unwanted passenger died. It is possible that he drowned in the turbulent water, and a fatal injury from the fall could also have resulted in death.

Captain just kept going
According to Greek media, the captain and three crew members of the ferry have been arrested. After the incident, the skipper continued sailing as usual and only returned to the scene of the accident in Piraeus after being instructed by the coastguard.
