Trial in Eisenstadt – Every time he drinks, the teddy bear goes crazy

Date:

A mentally disabled person (54) from Tadten (Burgenland) attacked his parents and threatened to stab them with a kitchen knife. He then assaulted and threatened six police officers, who were eventually able to calm down the drunkard.

Dejected and helpless, the parents followed the trial at the regional court of Eisenstadt against their 54-year-old son, who had repeatedly threatened them verbally and with death. “Even though we love him so much, we don’t have life anymore,” says the mother.

The son had been in special school for nine years – once he failed. In 2007 he was dragged 70 meters by a tram in Vienna. Since then he has received a disability pension and has been sitting at home. The judge was handed a certificate showing that there was an intellectual disability. Plus, he’s been drinking a lot and a lot for decades.

“No One Took Him”
“All attempts to place him in therapeutic centers or assisted living have failed,” says the father. ‘Nobody took him. But he belongs in psychiatric care!” Even kicking the alcohol habit didn’t help. “He was there for an hour and got a beer from the supermarket. And he was back at our house.”

Fear of the Syrians
Since 1989, the suspect has 11 previous convictions, three of which were related to dangerous threats. The last one so far is from 2012. On May 3 “I was a little tipsy. And the knife is always next to me, because I am afraid of the Syrians.” Six police officers rushed towards him, whom he rudely insulted. “When I’m sober, I’m a real teddy bear,” says the suspect. ‘Well,’ you hear from the mother.

The man accepted the sentence, six months probation to three years plus alcohol withdrawal plus probation. “I’m happy. And now I’m going for a few shots.”
