Despite the EU recommendation, masks are still mandatory on aircraft flying to and from Austria. Still…
The holiday season is upon us and just in time for the big travel wave, the EU has relaxed Covid rules for air passengers. Since Monday, it is no longer necessary to wear a face mask at all airports and on board aircraft. But really on all planes? Whether or not a mask should be worn on the plane is not determined by an airline, but depends on the respective national and official regulations. So what does that mean in practice?
The “Krone” asked this to Austrian Airlines. “The relaxation of the mask requirement is an EU recommendation that must be reflected in national regulations to also apply in Austria.” Under current Austrian regulations, wearing an FFP2 mask is therefore still mandatory.
In addition to Austria, masks are still mandatory in major tourist destinations such as Germany, Spain, Greece, Portugal and Italy. The head of AUA mother Lufthansa, Carsten Spohr, recently expected that the mask duty in the air would soon be over.
