Spectacular accident on the A10 near the Rennweg in Carinthia: a truck driver lost control of his vehicle, which weighed several tons, and crashed into the oncoming traffic. Drivers were just able to prevent something worse from happening.
A Bosnian professional driver was driving his truck and trailer on the A10 towards Villach on Wednesday evening when, for an unknown reason, he suddenly swerved towards Rennweg. The vehicle, which weighed several tons, then collided with a concrete control device at the construction site and began to skid.
Truck ends up in the opposite lane
The truck then broke through the center barrier with full force, slid for 80 meters and finally came to a stop in the opposite lane between the first lane and the hard shoulder. Several motorists had the presence of mind to get out of the way just in time to avoid a fatal accident.
Lenker had to go to the hospital
However, one of the cars was a total loss and came to a stop – it was badly damaged when it drove over the accident areas and had to be towed away. The 51-year-old driver of the truck was taken to hospital in Spittal an der Drau with unknown injuries. The Tauernautobahn remained closed for more than two hours.
