The extreme costs of food and drink along the highway, especially in Mondsee (Upper Austria), continue to cause concern. Now a restaurateur who worked in a chic establishment contacted the “Krone” – even there it was cheaper.
“I am a chef and have worked in five different countries. I was also once self-employed and had a restaurant in Kitzbühel. Even then, such prices were not common. But I didn’t know it was so expensive at rest areas,” says Manfred V. in shock.
The extreme prices at the gas stations along the Landzeit – we reported about a small coke for 9.50 euros or a veal Viennese for 34.55 euros in Mondsee – continue to irritate drivers. The 78-year-old from Sankt Pantaleon was on his way to the Mühlviertel with his daughter and her partner in July. On the way they stopped at the Aistersheim rest stop, they just wanted something to eat and drink, but the bill was expensive.
„You will never see us there again.”
The family put down 30 euros for two cappuccinos, a cake, a large beer and a liver sandwich. “A little more expensive is okay, but these are exorbitant prices. “I don’t know how you come up with these costs, it’s far-fetched,” says the former restaurateur, still annoyed about the “rip-off”.
On the way back, Manfred V. did not stop at a rest stop. “The prices are completely exaggerated. ‘We will never see ourselves there again’, the whole family has lost their appetite.
