Germany’s CDU party has received ridicule and malice with a new image film. It shows a building that is supposed to represent the Reichstag in Berlin, but in reality it is the Presidential Palace in Tbilisi.
The conservative party actually wanted to send a “strong signal” with the clip, which was published on Tuesday. In any case, the Christian Democrats managed to provide a lot of entertainment: the seat of the German Bundestag was apparently confused with the Georgian presidential palace in Tbilisi.
Both buildings have columns and a glass dome – while the latter in Tbilisi is egg-shaped, the one in the German capital is spherical. The facades of the two buildings also differ considerably.
The CDU did not comment on the faux pas
Politicians from other parties enjoy this faux pas on social media. Left-wing politician Anke Domscheit-Berg is surprised that no one within the CDU noticed the mistake. “I would like to know if an AI was involved,” he said. As n-tv.de reported, the marketing agency Guru is said to be responsible for the image fragment. She created the whole new design concept of the party. The CDU has so far declined to comment on the error.
The CDU’s new turquoise tone is reminiscent of the ÖVP’s rebranding
On Tuesday, not only the visual film was presented, but also a brand new party performance with a “modern look”. The main colors black and turquoise (instead of the previous orange) are reminiscent of the rebranding of the ÖVP under former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz. When CDU Secretary General Carsten Linnemann presented the new colors in detail – according to the politician, the turquoise shade is a “Cadenabbia blue”, the “other blue color – we call it ‘Röhndorf'”, Linnemann explained about the second complementary color in a dignified manner Dark blue. However, the meticulous description of the color nuances reminded some observers of the humorist Loriot.
Given the similarity to the turquoise of the ÖVP, it is not surprising that Kurz also likes the new CDU color. “Dear Friedrich Merz, with your content and topics your path to the Chancellery is certain! I think the color choice is very successful,” the ex-politician said enthusiastically on X (formerly Twitter).
