A major police operation took place on Ennstalbundesstrasse near Wörschach on Thursday: a suspected smuggler ran from the police during a routine vehicle check.
During a routine inspection of an SUV, everything apparently happened very quickly: the driver jumped out of his Audi Q7 and fled on foot across the adjacent meadow.
The police then brought together all available resources, including a police helicopter. Eyewitnesses reported that the man had left Haus near the city center.
Hidden in community center
There, the police actually quickly found what they were looking for: the driver was found lying in a waterway by a patrol from the Schladming police station and immediately arrested.
The Syrian (22), who was staying in Germany, probably injured his arm during his escape and was treated as an outpatient at the Schladming Hospital.
Four children in the car
In the car were twelve people from Turkey, who, according to the Styrian State Police Directorate, did not have a valid residence permit for the federal territory.
There were five men, three women and four children. bThey have not yet applied for asylum; the files are handled by the immigration police.
