In Sweden, a large part of the highway collapsed after a landslide on Saturday night.
Three people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, police said. An investigation is underway to determine whether blasting work at a nearby construction site was related to the landslide.
Holes and cracks
Potholes and cracks had appeared in the road, causing problems for about ten vehicles, rescue services said.
Prisoners released
The affected prisoners were all released. Further landslides cannot currently be ruled out, it was said on Saturday morning. Special forces and sniffer dogs would search the area.
The landslide took place on Sweden’s west coast near the city of Stenungsund, about 50 kilometers from Gothenburg. The highway between Gothenburg and the Norwegian capital Oslo was affected.
Emergency services explained that the landslide had a particularly heavy impact on an area of about 100 by 500 meters. The area includes an industrial area with a gas station and a fast food restaurant. In total, the affected area extends over more than 700 by 200 meters.
