The “Bandidos” are eliminated after the police attack in the Innviertel (Upper Austria), and now rival rockers are apparently feeling the revival. An incident in the Innviertel is an example of how much fear motorcyclists spread.
“The boys are not to be trifled with”: a bar owner from the Innviertel would rather sweep the incident under the table – and also not read the name of the disco in the newspaper. Almost a week ago, several rockers were guests in the dance hall at Ried. Some of them wore robes bearing the insignia of the “Hells Angels”, which has an official “branch” in Pattigham. There was drinking, not too little, and then there would have been an argument in which the bar owner got involved. The fists flew and hit the boss and the DJ.
More than just a bar fight
Meanwhile, the rumor mill is going around claiming it wasn’t just a bar fight, but a protection racket – a sort of appetizer in case no payment is made. The innkeeper waves it away, but Alois Ebner of the Ried public prosecutor’s office confirms “that the incident has occurred and the investigation is ongoing” – he cannot say more yet.
Protection rackets by rocker groups are nothing new in the Innviertel, but most victims prefer to pay and remain silent out of fear. Since the “Bandidos” are currently severely weakened by the recent major police attack (we reported), the “Hell Angels” will likely feel a boost.
