The call, made by ELA, Steilas and CC. OO., joins the public sector events already announced for October 25 and December 19. They are called teachers, special education, cooking and cleaning. LAB does not support this call.

Labor unions ELA, Steilas and CC.OO. (they represent almost 60% of this sector) have declared a strike in the public education centers of the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) for the next one the 24th of Octoberas announced at a press conference in Bilbao.
Non-university teachers are called up for that day (at the UPV/EHU there is a strike on October 11), special education, kitchen and cleaning staff.
The call of which LAB has been collected, joins the other two public sector strikes for October 25 and December 19, this time together with the Abertzale, Satse and ESK unions. The center led by Garbiñe Aranburu and Igor Arroyo has explained, also via a press release, that it will “concentrate its forces” on the public sector strikes and the feminist strike on November 30.
Miren Zubizarreta (ELA), Nagore Iturrioz (Steilas) and Sonia Aldave (CC.OO.) have been in charge of setting out the “many demands” they have for this day of mobilizations. According to them, the new strike day aims to “improve” working conditions in the Basque public school and to urge the Ministry of Education “to give up its policies of privatization and insecurity, and not to accept Madrid’s budgetary constraints to be able to decide on salaries and replacement rates in Euskadi”.
They also demand to ease the workload, additional resources to respond to the realities of current students and restore purchasing power, of which they estimated the loss at 20%. According to what they specified, a 10% increase would be negotiated for next year 2024, and the rest would be “recognized as debt.”
They also demand the rejuvenation of the workforce, either through early retirement or reduction of working hours; stabilize jobs; update the OPE model and reduce real temporary employment to 8%, from the current 30% in teaching staff and 50% in special education.
They also propose to agree on a plan for the Basque language of all educational staff and projects co-educational to “influence coexistence and equality and combat machismo.”
The centers believe that the account of Basque education, which is currently under consideration,” it appears fail and does not respond to the content we claim”.
LAB criticizes the ‘divisiveness’ and does not support the strike
In a statement, LAB denounced the “divisiveness” in this latest call since ELA, Steilas and CC. OO. “They initially lacked the will to seek consensus” and tried to “leave him on the sidelines.” Despite the attempts of the central Abertzale to make “concrete proposals for unity”, the other three unions have “given priority to division”. From LAB they believe that this call “could weaken the consensus on public services, as well as the unity and strength of the strike.”
For LAB “the majority of the claims” of ELA, Steilas and CC.OO. “They are included in the demands of October 25 and November 19,” and “the fight is there.” For example, she has announced that her union will “concentrate its efforts on the development of the Education Labor Agreement”, on these two strikes and on the general feminist strike.
