A 15-year-old girl was stabbed to death on her way to school in London on Wednesday. The suspect is a 17-year-old acquaintance who was arrested by the police about an hour after the crime.
“Based on our initial investigation, we believe the suspect knew the victim,” the Metropolitan Police said. Emergency services were called to the scene in the southern district of Croydon in the morning. Together with ambulance personnel, they provided first aid, but the girl died on the spot.

The investigators initially did not provide any information about the background of the crime. Many questions still remain unanswered, says police officer Andy Brittain.
