It is not only in the Netherlands that fatalities occur after a shooting. A gun attack took place in the French metropolis of Marseille on Thursday evening, killing at least two people. Another person was injured when the perpetrator got out of a car and opened fire in the street.
The crime took place on the street in the Chutes-Lavie district in the central fourth arrondissement of the southern French port city. The perpetrator fled in a car.
Burnt out car found
A burned-out car was found a short time later in a park near the crime scene. According to police reports, it was initially unclear whether it was the perpetrator’s vehicle. It was also initially unclear whether the two murders were linked to the drug trade that was rampant in France’s second-largest city.
There have been repeated serious gun attacks in Marseille. According to an AFP count, 42 people have been killed in drug trafficking-related violence in the city alone since the start of the year.
