Sad end to a long car life on Thursday morning in Pfunds (Tyrolean district of Landeck): a vintage VW bus completely burned out in Reschenstrasse. All attempts by the driver and some helpers to extinguish the fire failed.
The 58-year-old German was standing on a side track next to Reschenstrasse with the “Bulli” around 7:10 am on Thursday and wanted to start it. But he immediately noticed that something was wrong. According to police, the man smelled gasoline and went to investigate. The 58-year-old saw flames coming from the back of the car, where the engine is located.
“Bulli” was destroyed by flames
Together with other drivers who came to his aid, the driver tried to control the fire with hand fire extinguishers, but in vain. Only the Pfunds fire brigade ultimately managed to extinguish the fire. However, the emergency services were no longer able to prevent the classic car from being totaled.
The reason for the vehicle fire is currently unclear; the police are investigating. Reschenstrasse had to remain closed to all traffic while the fire was extinguished. It was passable again around 8:30 am.
