Fell over an embankment – motorcyclist seriously injured while overtaking

Date:

A failed overtaking maneuver led to a serious traffic accident in Mauthausen (Upper Austria). At the same time, a car driver and a motorcyclist tried to overtake and almost collided sideways. The motorcyclist then slipped and was thrown from his vehicle onto the shoulder.

On Wednesday evening, a 45-year-old from Linz drove his car on the B3 from Perg towards Langenstein. At the same time, a man from Mauthausen (36) was driving his motorcycle behind the wheel of his car. Shortly after the intersection of the B3 and the L 1411 in the Mauthausen area, the driver of the car started overtaking.

Overtaking maneuver went wrong
At the same time, the motorcyclist may have started overtaking, which almost resulted in a side impact. This caused the cyclist to skid, fall off the motorcycle, slide about 30 meters towards a guardrail and land on the adjacent embankment.

Cyclist seriously injured
After receiving initial care from the rescue team, the seriously injured motorcyclist was treated by the emergency doctor and eventually flown to the hospital with the emergency medical helicopter “Christophorus 10”. The B3 was closed for approximately two hours for the accident investigation and initial measures and a local diversion was put in place.
