A hiker (50) fell for his traveling companions on Saturday during a mountain tour in Ausservillgraten in East Tyrol. Shortly before, the trio had reached the summit of Gabesittenhang at an altitude of about 2,500 meters. The joy of conquering the top lasted only a short time.
The 50-year-old and his companions (43 and 45) started the descent shortly after 3pm after a rest at the summit. But the Germans did not get far.
The man led the way on an exposed path
The man led the way up the steep and partially exposed path. He probably tripped and fell about 70 meters, rolling over several times. The 50-year-old was injured near a fallen tree.
The women had no chance to get to the injured man. They had to wait for the rescuers. They managed to save the fallen victim with the help of rope from the emergency helicopter. The injured person was taken to Lienz Hospital.
