World War II munitions exploded in Normandy, France on Saturday. One man was killed and two other men were injured. The three Frenchmen had carried out clean-up work in the house of a deceased man (100).
They threw a bag of ammunition into the fire, broadcaster France Bleue reported. The bag contained 15 to 20 kilograms of explosives. Apparently they were “highly explosive German products,” said La Meauffe mayor Pascal Langlois. The explosion could be heard for miles in surrounding villages. There was one death and two injuries; one of the two was taken to a hospital by helicopter.
Roofs covered
According to a French journalist, the fatal victim was 64 years old. The blast destroyed the windows of the residential building and an agricultural building and covered the roofs. A country road was closed for a major rescue operation.

Explosives experts detonated five additional kilograms of ammunition discovered on site in a pit dug for the purpose. “The gentleman who lived there was fortunate that his house was not blown away while he was handling these materials during his lifetime,” the mayor said.
