Details about the investigation into the medical emergency on the sidelines of an election campaign by AfD leader Tino Chrupalla in Bavaria are leaking out only slowly. The Public Prosecution Service is investigating suspected physical injuries – against unknown persons. Researchers have now revealed that there was “light physical contact” with several people during a selfie before Chrupalla’s planned speech on Wednesday. The party chairman then suddenly felt unwell.
According to his office, the right-wing populist politician is in intensive care. A party spokesman said on Thursday that a leak had been found on Chrupalla. The spokesperson could not provide more specific information. It said tests were being carried out for possible substances in the body and police were investigating.
Police have so far no evidence of physical attacks
A spokesperson for the Upper Bavaria North police station in Ingolstadt said on Thursday morning that there was no new information. Police still have no evidence of a physical attack on the AfD leader from the public. As far as we know so far, the events took place behind the stage.
According to a report by “Spiegel”, a notice board pin was also found there. This is now being forensically investigated. It is still unclear whether there is a connection between the discovery and the medical incident. The Public Prosecution Service announced on Thursday afternoon that the politician suddenly felt nauseous after the selfie. Chrupalla felt pain in her upper arm. This was also swollen and red.
