Last Wednesday, the Tyrolean police, together with experts, carried out a national “sharp operation” in freight traffic. The results are sobering: various violations were found in a third of the trucks checked. In total there were more than 300 advertisements.
The priority checks were carried out on Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the main transit routes A12, A13 and S16 and on the secondary road network (Fernpassstraße, Reschenstraße, Loferer Straße, Drautalstraße, Seefelder Straße, Tiroler Straße, Zillertalstraße, Achenseestraße). The emphasis was mainly on the technical condition of the vehicles – but not only!
37 drivers are prohibited from continuing their journey
In general were 279 heavy vehicles and their drivers checked. Various violations were found in 90 trucks (32 percent), the police reported on Friday. 37 truck drivers were given a (temporary) ban to continue their journey. In three cases the license plates were removed.
In addition to the above-mentioned violations, another 70 reports and 45 warrants have been made or submitted for other traffic violations. 99 foreign drivers had to ensure safety.
A drunk driver, the trailer brakes are broken
An alcohol test was carried out on all arrested truck drivers. One of these was positive: a Dutchman was caught driving under the influence in the Imst district.
There was also a particularly egregious case in Inzing in the Innsbruck-Land district: more than twenty defects, some serious, were found in an Italian semi-trailer truck in the highway parking lot there. “There were no brakes on the trailer,” investigators concluded.
