At 120 km/h: wild chase across the Vienna Belt

Date:

A 24-year-old had a wild race with the police on Friday evening. After the officers asked the young man to stop after an accident, he suddenly accelerated. At times he fled at speeds of 75 mph through several neighborhoods, endangering pedestrians and motorists.

The driver initially hit an e-scooter as he entered the Neubau district, which pushed a passerby over the protective path. The young man apparently did not want to talk about this with the police and fled.

Pedestrians in danger
He ignored countless traffic rules and made risky changes several times on the Lerchenfelder Belt at extremely high speeds. Several drivers had to brake or swerve to avoid a collision.

Pedestrians also had to jump aside at the last minute when the 24-year-old crossed the intersection without noticeable slowing down despite the red light.

Under the influence of medications
The escapee eventually collided with a parked car in Borschkegasse. The 24-year-old man was then arrested with physical violence. The police seized some marijuana from him. In addition, the man was under the influence of addictive substances and did not have a valid driver’s license.
