Six fire brigades had to respond to a burning building in the Braunau district (Upper Austria). In the early morning hours, an emergency call was received that a house in the municipality of Helpfau-Uttendorf had caught fire. The fear that someone might still be inside did not materialize. The fire is now under control.
Shortly before half past five on Sunday, the emergency call came in: a building between the Helpfau-Uttendorf parish office and a kebab restaurant was on fire. Because it was initially feared that there might still be people in the house, a search was conducted – but the building was empty.
The officially vacant building was already completely on fire when the fire brigade arrived. According to commander Franz Kurzmann, the extinguishing work was difficult because the building is very sloping – and is blocked at the front by another building. About 90 men were deployed.
Roof needs to be removed
Six fire brigades from Braunau and the surrounding area have now brought the fire under control. Now the sheet steel roof of the building must be opened to completely eliminate the last sources of fire. The damage caused is extensive and fire investigators are already on site.
