The incident took place last summer in the US state of Virginia, and now the 48-year-old had to appear in court. The man had not been able to cope with the divorce from his partner Fatima Via Rojas. After eight years in an abusive relationship, she had enough and dumped Montano.
Then he came up with an evil plan: he drove to his ex’s apartment to kill her. But he didn’t know that a 40-year-old girlfriend had moved into his ex’s apartment. When Montano opened the door, he didn’t realize it was the wrong victim – and stabbed the surprised woman with a knife.

“He literally focused on the jugular. He concentrated on the face, the head, the neck. He aimed where he would cause the greatest possible damage,” the prosecutor explained of the victim’s injuries. He suffered ten stab wounds and other blunt force injuries.
Body set on fire after bloody crime
A neighbor heard the victim’s cries for help and alerted the police. But for Silvia Vaca Abacay, all help came too late. The 48-year-old tried to throw evidence and set the body on fire before fleeing through a window. “He did this to cover up the gruesome murder and to cover his tracks,” the prosecutor is convinced. In addition to murder, Montano also had to answer for arson.
The 48-year-old pleaded not guilty in court, but his lawyers ultimately failed to raise enough reasonable doubts. According to television channel NBC, a bent knife was found in the back of his truck the day after the bloody crime. Montano was eventually found guilty; a decision on sentencing is still pending – he faces life imprisonment.
