On Thursday night, three people were killed and two others injured in a drone strike in the Russian border region of Belgorod.
“The air defense system in the Belgorod district shot down a drone (…) approaching the city,” the region’s governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on the online service Telegram. The Belgorod region borders Ukraine.
A residential building caught fire due to falling debris. Three people died in the flames: a woman, a man and a small child. Another man suffered serious burns and was in a coma. A woman broke her legs and suffered a severe concussion. Both injured people are currently in intensive care. “The doctors are doing everything they can to save her,” Gladkow said on Telegram.
The residential building was completely destroyed and two others were damaged. Three cars were also damaged.
The Russian Defense Ministry had previously announced on Telegram that Russian air defenses had thwarted a Ukrainian drone attack in the Belgorod region late Wednesday evening. The number of attacks on Russian territory has increased since Ukraine launched its counter-offensive in the summer.
