More than two weeks ago, a single-family home burned down in Lieboch (Graz region). Now fire investigators have found out: the ex-girlfriend of the home’s resident may have started the fire!
On October 1, shortly after 8 p.m., alert neighbors noticed the house fire. The resident (50) and his new partner (38) were in the home at the time, but were able to flee. The exact cause of the fire was not immediately clear.Nearly 80 emergency services from ten surrounding fire brigades then extinguished the house, which was partly completely on fire.

Now fire investigators have discovered that it was arson. The resident’s ex-girlfriend (55) has been arrested! He had separated from the woman only two weeks earlier via messenger message.
The 55-year-old vehemently denies the crime. She only said that on the evening of the fire she had taken a taxi to her ex-partner’s house and then went home after a short conversation. Investigation showed that there was no conversation or contact between the 50-year-old and the suspect that day.
Fire observed for three hours
The 55-year-old then wanted to take the bus back to Graz. But because of the roadblock, she was stuck at the stop for three hours. ““She saw her ex-partner’s house burning down,” police said.
