A Washington woman had her favorite car raffled off among complete strangers.
Bizarre legacy in the land of unlimited possibilities: passionate VW driver Diana Sweeney from the American state of Oklahoma retired in 2018.
“Everyone should have a chance to win the car”
A year ago in June she became seriously ill and on her sickbed she made her dying wish known to her niece Suzanne Singleterry: ‘Everyone who comes to my funeral should have the chance to win my VW.’ She enjoyed giving people presents. I promised her that I would make her wish come true.”
After the aunt’s death in July 2022, the grieving family decided to keep their promise. Cousin Rick Ingram told Fox Digital: “We then decided to raffle a car for everyone at the funeral.”
The execution of the will took more than a year, but a few days ago the time had come: the administrator of the will, Rudy Espinoza, made a drawing. On the hood of the white Beetle, they placed the lottery drum with the names of those attending the funeral and placed a portrait photo of Sweeney next to it.
Because the local TV station also reported about it, hundreds of people came together for the unique farewell. And 15-year-old Gabriella Bonham was chosen as the lucky winner, even though she did not know the deceased.
