Investigation underway – prisoner dead in cell: were drugs involved?

Date:

There was one death in Klagenfurt prison. A 33-year-old would have suffocated from the pain. His cellmate didn’t notice anything.

“We are investigating the death of a prisoner in Klagenfurt prison,” confirms Markus Kitz of the Public Prosecution Service. The 33-year-old Turk, who was serving a prison sentence, was found dead in his bed early on Sunday morning – his two fellow inmates apparently did not notice that the man had vomited in his sleep and had suffocated.

Sudden death
Hours earlier he would have been snoring peacefully. The young man’s sudden death is a mystery. “There is no evidence of foul play,” Kitz said. But there are those who do not rule out drugs as a cause of death. The man was in the replacement program, so he also received his replacement medicine while in prison.

Autopsy should provide clarity
“To clarify this, an extensive autopsy was ordered, which also included examining stomach contents and blood values,” Kitz said. But the results are still pending.
