A curious attack that fortunately ended lightly! When two Hungarians (both 32) went for a walk with their dogs in the Bärnschützklamm area on Saturday, an ibex apparently felt threatened by the barking quadruped and attacked him! Because one of the women had put the belt around her waist, she fell and was also attacked by the animal. She was slightly injured.
The two Hungarian holidaymakers were on their way to the Kassahütte together with their border collie from the Bärenschützklamm car park in Mixnitz around 2 pm. The four-legged friend had been kept neatly on a leash and the dog owner had also wrapped the leash around her waist and secured it with a carabiner.
Bock took the dog by the horns
Suddenly a Capricorn appeared. The imposing wild animal apparently felt threatened by the dog, especially when it started barking. The ibex then attacked the dog and took him on his horns! The keeper couldn’t let go of the secure line and fell himself during the attack. The ibex then attacked the 32-year-old who was lying on the ground. She was slightly injured.
Capricorn gave chase
The women managed to flee down the valley, the ibex chased them but stopped at a bridge. There the tourists were able to call for help and the Mixnitz mountain rescue team responded. The injured 32-year-old was treated by rescuers, both women were escorted to the valley floor. However, the injured person did not need to seek medical attention.
The dog and, later investigations revealed, the ibex were not injured in the incident.
The Alpine Police, the Mixnitz mountain rescue team with ten people and the voluntary fire brigades Mixnitz and Breitenau with four people were deployed.
