In an interrogation published by Israel’s domestic intelligence agency Shin Bet, a Hamas terrorist tells how he and his colleagues murdered a kibbutz during the October 7 attack. In what appeared to be an abandoned house, they heard children crying. “We shot at the security room… until we heard no more sound,” Omar Sami Marzuk Abu Rusha said during the interview
More than 1,400 people were killed in the major Hamas attack. As Abu Rusha explained to the interrogators, he was among the Hamas fighters who invaded Kfar Azza, near the Gaza border. They had only one mission, he explained: “Our goal was to kill. We shouldn’t kidnap, we should just kill.” After the attack, the terrorist was captured by Israeli soldiers.
The soldiers were also not supposed to stop at women and children, as the terrorist further stated: “They told us that all settlers were soldiers. Kill everyone you see.”
Colonists were trapped in fire
Abu Rusha rode to the border in a jeep with other fighters. The border fence was opened with explosives. The first house they entered they found deserted. A colleague then set fire to an outside building. Then a man came running out of the garden with a garden hose. “Abu Ahmad and Hamzeh saw him, shot him and killed him,” the detainee said.
He eventually set fire to the bedroom in a second abandoned house. They then saw a woman standing near a window and shot her as well. The fighters fortified themselves in another, apparently abandoned house. “We ate dates and drank water,” said Abu Rusha. What follows shows the cold-bloodedness of the extremists.
Shots were fired at the door until the children’s screams stopped
Because the troops suddenly heard noises coming from a security room. The officer asks what they were. “The crying of little children,” said the terrorist. “We shot at the door until we heard no more noise.” When asked what that meant, the interviewee replied: “That they were dead.”
Surrender to Israeli soldiers after a firefight
Shortly after the heinous act, Israeli soldiers arrived and exchanged gunfire with the Hamas fighters. After about ten minutes they surrendered and were arrested. The extremist knows that killing children is not tolerated in Islam. His parents would also not know he was with Hamas. “If my father sees me, he will shoot me for it, he will kill me,” Abu Rusha is convinced.
