Many children are already writing to Santa Claus and wishing ‘peace in the world’. The head of the children’s letter campaign at the St. Nicholas post office in St. Nicholas in Saarland, Sabine Gerecke, reported this to the German Press Agency.
The children did not name a country where there was war, but generally expressed a desire for peace and an end to war. The topic clearly concerns children and young people in many countries, Gerecke said.
Letters also from Ukraine and Russia
But the children also hoped for gifts: many wanted classic toys or electronic devices such as mobile phones. Almost a month before the opening of the Sinterklaas post office, approximately 3,000 letters had already been received.
The countries of origin are mainly China and Taiwan, but there are also a number of letters from Russia and Ukraine. All children receive an answer from Sinterklaas. The letters will be sent from December 3.
Letters have been coming in for more than fifty years
During Advent and Christmas 2022, the 40 volunteers responded to 31,636 letters from children from a total of 52 countries – more than ever before.
In the small town in the municipality of Großrosseln, near the French border, children have been writing to Santa Claus for more than 50 years.
