The Minister of Tourism, Trade and Consumption of the Basque government, the socialist Javier Hurtado, has stated that “it is time to work seriously, rigorously and discreetly” on the possible introduction of a tourist tax in the Basque Autonomous Community. In an interview for the program ‘Boulevard’ on Radio Euskadi, Hurtado admitted that ‘there is no material time’ in this legislature to implement it, but that there is time to create that ‘consensus’ and ‘the to know everyone’s points of view. “
Last Monday the work committee was established to analyze the issue in the Basque Parliament in which all Euskadi institutions are represented: the Basque Government, the three provincial councils, the municipal councils of the three capitals, EUDEL, and the associations representing the sector (Hospitality of Bizkaia, Hospitality of Gipuzkoa, Destination Bilbao, Euskadi Camping Association, Nekatur and Aparture).
The forum has set out three blocks of work: first, they will learn about the experiences of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, as well as other experiences at European level; Secondly, they will listen to the views of the different associations in the sector, and finally, they will collect the impressions of local and provincial institutions. According to him, these three blocks will be extended in the coming months.
In a different order of events, Hurtado has the attack on the PSE-EE headquarters in Donostia/San Sebastián, a mobilization involving the throwing of red paint, and has criticized a post on social networks by the general secretary of the Partido Popular in Madrid, Alfonso Serrano, linking it to the protests in Madrid in favor of the amnesty. Hurtado believes that Javier de Andrés’ Basque PP has started its journey “on the wrong foot”: “She has had the opportunity to demonstrate the new strategy she says she will have, but we did not see it when it came. to set his colleagues straight from Madrid”.
As for the campaign Euskadi Denda bonusHurtado explained that it will be in effect from November 8 to December 5. For every 30 euros purchased, customers receive a 10 euro discount in the branches participating in the promotion. Each person over 16 years old can enjoy up to five vouchers of 10 euros.
He also referred to the demonstration last Saturday in Bilbao against the “judicial offensive against the Basque Country”, an offensive that the counsel has ruled out. Moreover, he has defended that all the progress made regarding the Basque Country has had “the support and work” of the socialists.
