Vienna’s public toilets are among the dirtiest in Europe. This is the conclusion of the British sanitary ware retailer ‘Showers to you’, which evaluated Google reviews. Vienna’s public toilets are sixth in the dirty rankings.
The Latvian capital Riga takes first place. Behind it lie metropolises such as Madrid (Spain), Valletta (Malta), Stockholm (Sweden) and Warsaw (Poland). With a normalized value of 6.45 out of ten, Vienna is well below the target level, according to a statement from the British retailer. More than one in ten reviews on Google contain an equivalent term to ‘dirty’. This is above average even in cities with the worst public toilets.
Overall, Vienna’s toilets achieved an average rating of 3.71 (out of five) in the reviews and an overall cleanliness score of 5.49. By comparison, in Riga, the city that comes in the not-so-glorious first place, almost one in five reviews has keywords like ‘dirty’.
Cleanest toilets in Bucharest
According to the evaluation, the cleanest toilets are in the Romanian capital Riga, with an overall cleanliness score of 8.7 (out of ten). To reach these conclusions, the British company analyzed the content of more than 8,000 reviews of around 1,000 public toilets in Europe for the frequency of keywords. The average toilet rating, the overall cleanliness score, a normalized dirtiness score, and the percentage of negative reviews were then calculated for each city.
The plumbing store points out in a press release that three-quarters of all respondents in Great Britain only use a public toilet in extreme cases. This is based on a study by the sanitary company “Citron Hygiene”.
