On Thursday there were increasing indications that two boys from Altmünster, aged twelve and fifteen, were behind the shocking shots. In the evening the official announcement came: case solved! It was actually the two friends.
Witnesses afraid
In Gmunden they targeted two passers-by – a 60-year-old and a 49-year-old – at a petrol station near the train station and also pulled the trigger. Luckily it was just an empty gun, but it looked a lot like a real gun.
During the investigations, the sequence of actions could be reconstructed: first both boys were at the train station in Gmunden and there they were already working with the toy guns. The twelve-year-old Croat then continued his ‘tour’ alone on the Bahnhofstrasse in Gmunden and, with his face covered, tried to force a 49-year-old woman out of her car at a gas station with a gun drawn. Since this didn’t work, he drove on to the nearest gas station. On the way there, he again targeted a woman. When he arrived at the gas station, he aimed at more people and pulled the trigger several times so he could finally test the sound of his blank ammunition.
