An Austrian tourist suddenly felt unwell on Saturday in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. A short time later it turned out that the pensioner had suffered a stroke. Because the 81-year-old could no longer speak, determining his identity was initially difficult.
The man is said to have been looking at the cathedral’s dome on Saturday when the incident took place. The pensioner even suffered a serious stroke at that time. Roman media reported this on Monday.
Pensioner had lost his papers
The man was therefore unable to identify himself because he had lost his documents due to illness. He also couldn’t talk because of the stroke. Therefore, the hospital’s medical staff contacted the police and asked for help in finding relatives or friends.
The police have contacted the Vatican
The tourist could not even write his own name, but he managed to indicate his place of residence in Austria. Police then contacted the Vatican to find out the tourist’s first and last name.
The Austrian was allowed to leave the hospital again
After police found the hotel where the Austrian was staying, they managed to reach the leader of the tour group, who had lost contact with the man. The 81-year-old was first admitted to Santo Spirito Hospital and then transferred to San Camillo Hospital in Rome. He has now been allowed to leave the hospital again.
