A tractor-trailer loaded with meat was driving on the A5 towards Vienna late Monday evening when the vehicle suddenly broke through the guardrail. The emergency services had to intervene; it was the start of a complex rescue operation.
The Wolkersdorf fire brigade (Lower Austria) was originally alerted at 10:19 pm to rescue people on the A5. Fortunately, the signal was given quickly: no one was in danger.
Complex rescue operations for emergency services
However, it was even more difficult for the emergency services to save the meat-laden vehicle. The truck was stuck on the shoulder of the famous “Einser”. The escaping fuel had to be intercepted immediately. In addition, a crane was needed to get the tractor-trailer back on the road. The Raupold company from Drasenhofen was also called in by the highway police.
Tractor truck drove back onto the road
The situation was complicated for the fire brigade: the guardrail structure was partially clamped under the tractor trailer under great tension. To loosen the handrail parts, a cut-off machine and an impact wrench had to be used. The tractor-trailer was finally able to be pulled off the shoulder and back onto the road.
The operation could not be completed until 2:45 am. No one was injured during the accident.
