New power outages in Gaza

The main telecommunications companies in the Gaza Strip announced this Thursday the closure of services due to the lack of electricity supply, following the severe fuel shortages that the Palestinian enclave has been experiencing since the outbreak of the conflict on October 7.

“We regret to announce that all telecommunications services have been left without service, as all energy sources supporting the network have been exhausted and fuel is no longer coming in,” the companies Jawwal and Paltel have explained on their social networks.

Companies have been warning for days about these restrictions, which are due to the lack of electric generators. Humanitarian organizations have also warned that these power outages are complicating care for the population and the Gaza Strip government has acknowledged that poor communications are preventing the balance between the victims of the Israeli military offensive.

Israeli authorities on Wednesday authorized the import of fuel for the first time: 23,000 liters destined for the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA). However, as the organization itself explains, this dispatch is limited to facilitating the operation of vehicles transporting relief supplies.
