Several vehicles collided with each other on the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley Highway (A14) on Friday afternoon. Earlier, a 26-year-old German had lost control of his car on the wet road, probably due to worn tires.
On Friday at 4:28 p.m., a 26-year-old German drove his car on the Rhine Valley Highway towards Germany. At the Dornbirn-West intersection his vehicle skidded, probably due to the worn tires – where according to the police even the tissue was already visible – and the soaked road.
Two cars race into the scene of an accident
He hit the outer guardrail and then came to a stop on the standard track. The following vehicle was able to swerve to the right and another driver was also able to stop her vehicle in time before the accident scene. Despite immediately applying emergency braking, the two motorists behind her were unable to do so and collided.
Large contingent of rescuers
To record the accident and rescue work, the highway towards Germany had to be completely closed for over an hour. The fire brigade with four vehicles and 25 emergency services were on site, as well as the rescue service with four vehicles and ten employees and the police with three patrols and five officers. ÖAMTC and Asfinag were also on duty with three and one vehicles respectively and the same number of employees.
