Severe storms with heavy rain, hail and storms kept emergency services on their toes in some parts of Tyrol late in the afternoon and evening on Monday. A hotspot was the Jenbach district in the Unterland, where streets, cellars and underground parking garages were flooded. In Stans (Schwaz district) there was a mudflow, among others, in Matrei in Osttirol a stream overflowed its banks. Hahntennjochstraße had to be temporarily closed to all traffic.
Already at 4 pm a heavy thunderstorm passed over the Ausserfern in Tyrol: there were also several fire brigade actions. “In Reutte, a parking lot was flooded, in Breitenwang water penetrated a cellar and there was also water damage in Höfen, Tannheim, Schattwald and Vils,” said the Tyrol control center at the request of “Krone”.
Hotspot area Jenbach, Mure catches car
In the evening, the Jenbach area in the lowland was the storm hotspot. There were about 30 operations in this area alone – including flooded basements, underground parking garages, underpasses and streets.
A mudflow has erupted on the Vomperberg. A car was hit by the rubble – luckily no one was injured. Also in Stans there was a mudslide around 11:15 pm after heavy rain. “Screen masses and logs laid the L215 Unterinntalstrae between Jenbach and Stans. Due to the continued heavy rainfall and a possible danger, the Unterinntalstrae was completely closed after consultation with the authorities and the road maintenance company. East Tyrol: Bach has overflowed its banks
Heavy rain and hail also in Matrei in Osttirol: “It happened there in the Seblas district to an increased water flow from the Zoppetbach, which overflowed in the area of the B108 Felbertauernstraße because of a drain pipe that was clogged with debris and branches,” said the director. The alarmed fire brigade eventually managed to channel the water into a canal about 80 meters away on the side of the main road and remove the mud from the road with a high-pressure water jet. The B108 was single-lane for about an hour and a half.
There were also storms in Wiesing and Reith im Alpbachtal, among others.
Mountain pass closed due to heavy rain
Due to the heavy rainfall, the Hahntennjochstraße, which connects the Imst district to the Ausserfern, had to be closed from 7 pm to 8.45 pm for safety reasons.
