There is also a shortage of university students with studies in molecular biology and mathematics, and of vocational graduates in the following areas: agriculture, physical sports activities, electricity and electronics, mechanical production, health and chemistry.
From a study by the Advisory Committee of Lanbide points out a “significant gap” between the profiles requested by companies and the capacity of the Basque system to meet that demand, meaning that there are difficulties in finding nurses, different types of engineers and biochemists.
There is also a shortage of university students with studies in molecular biology and mathematics, and of vocational graduates in the following areas: agriculture, physical sports activities, electricity and electronics, mechanical production, health and chemistry.
For this reason, this Advisory Committee for Prospecting and Detecting Training Needs has recommended Lanbide to adapt the training it offers to the profiles that companies need.
The study highlights that the qualification level of the working population in Euskadi has increased since 2017, as the number of people “with university education and vocational training has increased significantly”.
According to the report, there are university knowledge areas (architecture and construction, engineering and healthcare) with lower unemployment rates than other sectors.
However, despite the better results in terms of job placement indicators, there are fewer and fewer graduates in these university courses. On the contrary, education, one of the sectors with the highest unemployment, has seen an increase.
In the case of FP, the lowest unemployment rates occur in the energy and water, mechanical production and agriculture sectors. In this case, there is a coincidence between the increase in the number of graduates in the mechanical and agricultural production sectors and their job placement.
